The Text Entry question type allows the interviewer to record responses word for word. In design, the question's text is entered into the Text field of the question record and the Mask field is where the designer indicates the expected format of the response.

The Mask field indicates whether a response will be 'alpha-numeric', integer, date, time, and, therefore, what input format to display on the screen, whether to draw a line of text (A <= 80), or a text box (A > 80) for the answer.

Be sure to allow for enough space for the complete response.
