Numeric Entry Question Type

The Numeric Entry question type allows the interviewer to record numeric responses. Numeric responses may be bounded by range checks by using the Hard Max and Min fields and the Soft Max and Min fields.

The Mask field must be specified to indicate the format (maximum length is expected) for the answer. The 'mask' is a series of 'nines' (9999, or 99.99) each as a place holder for the virtual number entered by the interviewer. The Mask field will tell the Survey program how to 'draw' the size of the response box on the interviewer's screen.

Numeric responses are often verbatim recording of salary or 'number of hours worked' and they can easily be checked for a valid range. For example, the 'number of weeks worked per year' can vary considerably but it can never exceed 52.
