A roster must exist if it is to be used in a Roster question type. If a roster does not exist, it must be created by using the Add New Roster feature: Menu Commands: File | New | Roster. In this feature, each data item in the roster is treated as a fully functioning and fully documented question. If, for example, a HOUSEHOLD roster needs to be created with five roster fields (or 'columns'), e.g., Name; Age; Gender; Marital Status; and Highest Grade Completed, the archivist or designer would need to create five, fully-functioning and fully-documented questions.

Question types the designer may choose from are: Select One, Text Entry, Numeric Entry, Date Entry, and Time Entry.
