Setting Global Values
Global settings for default next questions, areas of interest (AOI), user guide links, and the documentation year can now be set up by designers with the proper privileges. To perform a global setting, a user must have 'Full' privileges or above for the instrument in question.
Default Next Question
The global setting for default next question will assign the physical next question in the instrument tree to the Next Q field of questions that have a missing default next question assign to them. To do it:
- First, select an instrument, one or more sections or questions; then
- In the Toolbar use: Tools | Global Settings | Default NextQ'.
Areas of Interest or User Guide Links
To perform a global setting on the
'areas of interest' field
or the 'user guide links' field,
a user must have 'Doc Only' privileges or above. To do it:
- First, select an instrument, one or more sections, rosters, questions or roster questions; then
- In the Toolbar use: Tools | Global Settings | Areas of Interest (or User Guide Links).
When the Area of Interest option is selected a pop-up window shown below will appear in which the area(s) of interest may be entered. A user may choose to fill on the appropriate question fields of individual questions with specified areas of interest values, or apply the global settings to all the selected questions. Caution: applying the settings globally to all the selected questions will overwrite the existing areas of interest with the new global settings. To avoid overwriting, choose the option called "Question with missing AOI (area of interest) to fill in the missing values only.
Questions with missing areas of interest have only the phrase "Select One" in all five of the AOI fields. When assigning AOI values the order matters as illustrated by the ordinal numbers.

Below is a sample question with areas of interest assigned. Notice the Documentation tab has been selected and this information appears under it..
User Guide Links
To perform a global setting on the 'user guide links' field, a user must have 'Doc Only' privileges or above. To do it:
- First, select an instrument, one or more sections, rosters, questions or roster questions; then
- In the Toolbar use: Tools | Global Settings | User Guide Links.
When the User Guide Links option is selected a pop-up window shown below will appear in which the user guide links may be entered. A user may choose to fill on the appropriate question fields of individual questions with specified user guide links, or apply the global settings to all the selected questions. Caution: applying the settings globally to all the selected questions will overwrite the existing user guide links with the new global settings. To avoid overwriting, choose the option called "Question with missing user guide links to fill in the missing values only.
Documentation Year
Allows the user to assign a documentation year to all questions or only those with a missing docmentation year.
